A police corporal, Moruf Awoleke, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for killing a commercial motorcylist in Ilaro town of the state.
The suspect, with force number 389719, shot dead Hammed Posi (32) on Wednesday at the Igboro area of Ilaro in Yewa South local government area at about 10.30pm.
According to an eyewitness said the victim was killed for violating a restriction order placed by the police on commercial motorcycles in the state.
In a reaction to the killing, youth in the town, commercial motorcyclists and members of the butchers association in the town, embarked on a protest, barricading all roads in and around the town.
The protest had paralysed commercial activities in the town as shops, markets, banks as well as the local government secretariat were hurriedly shut.
It was gathered that the deceased had gone to buy food with a friend’s motorcycle before he was intercepted by three police who were also riding on another motorbike.
The cops reportedly accused the man of violating the restriction order and seized his motorcycle which resulted into an argument.
The victim was later shot after an argument with the officers.
